Nội Dung Bài Viết:
Amber Lynn Costello, a 27-year-old woman, resided at 1112 America Ave. in West Babylon. She was last seen by acquaintances, leading a troubled life dominated by addiction. Costello, along with her two male roommates, lived a life consumed by heroin addiction. As a heroin addict and sex worker, she relied on advertising her services on platforms like Craigslist and Backpage to sustain her addiction and support her roommates. Standing at just 4 feet 11 inches tall, Costello used the aliases Carolina or Mia and bore distinct tattoos, including “Kaos” on her neck, a butterfly on her lower back, and the word “Margeret” on her leg.
The Dangerous Lifestyle and Last Moments
Having moved from Clearwater, Florida, Costello had previously completed a 28-day drug rehabilitation program but sadly relapsed shortly before her disappearance. Costello and her roommates shared a cellphone, and both female roommates engaged in sex work to fuel their heroin addiction. The two male roommates would arrange dates for the women, often executing scams in which they confronted clients after payment, claiming Costello as their girlfriend and causing the clients to flee.
On September 2, 2010, Costello left her residence on foot to meet a client who was picking her up at her house. Notably, she did not have her cellphone with her at the time. Tragically, she was never seen again.

Leading up to her disappearance, Costello received several phone calls from a client offering an unusually high sum of $1,500 for an overnight outcall, far exceeding the usual rate. Oblivious to the caller’s true identity, she was unaware he was using a disposable burner phone under a false name. Around 10:30 p.m. on that fateful night, she left her residence in West Babylon and vanished, never to be seen alive again.
Unveiling the Long Island Serial Killer
Three months later, Costello’s remains were discovered, wrapped in burlap alongside the remains of three other sex workers in the marshy area near Gilgo Beach. The victims had all been asphyxiated. The search for the killer continued, and it was not until years later that a breakthrough was achieved.
The Arrest and Prime Suspect
In a significant development, a New York man named Rex Heuermann was arrested in connection with the long-unsolved Gilgo Beach murders. While Heuermann was not initially charged with the killing of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, a victim believed to be the first, he is considered a prime suspect in the case. Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, has been charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello.
Seeking Justice and Closure
The arrest of Rex Heuermann represents a breakthrough in the investigation that had perplexed authorities for over a decade. While the case is far from closed, the law enforcement officials involved remain committed to pursuing justice for all the victims, including Costello. The tragic story of Amber Lynn Costello serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals and the need to address the issues surrounding the sex trade.
