His blonde hair and super-fast skating earned him the nickname “The Golden Jet”, and many teams would assign a player strictly to shadow him whenever he was on the rink. Hull played for the Chicago Black Hawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Hartford Whalers in his 23 year career in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA). Had the pleasure of meeting both Bobby and Stan at an autograph session back in my college days. So glad I had the opportunity to watch him and Stan at the old Chicago Stadium. Condolences to his family and may he Rest In Eternal Peace!

I don’t know as much about hockey as other sports. When the Hawks games were broadcast on WGN-tv when I was a child this man was “The Golden Jet” an enormous hero. Later because of unfortunate statements and revelations about his family life he was ostracized. He had grown up in bad circumstance that skewed his value systems, I believe. What’s even sadder is he had a daughter who seemed to dedicate her life to destroying his reputation. One happy note was after the Wirtz family finally sold the team the new owners brought Bobby and Stan Mikita back for public relations work. That was a long overdue happy note.
