Jazzing Things Up: Board Member Behind Famous Rodeo Goes Candid Ahead of MajorEvent
The competitive aspect of rodeo sports has gained immense popularity and has also become a source of income for many. However, at their core, sports are meant for enjoyment and recreation. Community sporting events provide an excellent opportunity for people to unwind, have fun, socialize, and strengthen their bonds with each other.
Keeping the spirit and fun of sports alive, the Northern York County of Westville arranged its annual rodeo event. The Wellsville Frontier Days kick off to celebrate Labor Day. People gather at the yearly event and celebrate with each other, enjoying quality food, time, and rustic rodeo sports.
Local rodeo event attracts scores of people
The residents of Wellsville are hosting their 62nd annual Wellsville Frontier Days rodeo event. The event is known for massive participation by the members of society in various rodeo categories. People compete in steer wrestling, steer roping, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, and bareback bronc riding. In fact, the local rodeo event also uses bulls for bull riding and barrel racing. All these sporting activities are held under the aegis of the non-profit organization, Wellsville Frontier Days. All funds gathered by the organization are pooled back to make the event a grand success. While everyone loves to watch and partake in rodeo sports, the event is also full of amazing food.
The county people arranged for some really great food options at discounted prices for the rodeo event. According to a board member of the rodeo event, Jeanne Goforth, “We have food concessions here. We have ice cream and funnel cakes.” She also said that the event plays some of the most awesome music by noon time, known for “Jazzing things up.” Goforth also noted that they had initially begun things for just a few minutes of friendly sports. However, the popularity of the event has now turned it into an event that lasts for hours.
From a small pastime to a full-fledged event
The Wellsville Frontier Days was first held in 1961. The Northern York County people didn’t predict things to grow so big. Goforth noted, “Traditionally, rodeos don’t run over about three hours.” However, the organizers received a huge number of entries year after year, which increased the number of hours.
Rodeo events take a long time to eliminate participants compared to races or head-to-head games. However, the people of Wellsville don’t mind the wait and merrily participate every year. One is welcomed by the sight of residents enjoying quality music, good food, and rodeo sports in Wellsville. Honoring and participating in traditional sports cultivates a great sense of oneness, camaraderie, and discipline in the residents as well.
